Weekend Finds 26.11.2023

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these “Finds” posts; if I’m not mistaken, this is my first one in two years. Eeek! I do want to get back to sharing things I love, that inspire me or thought-provoking pieces from time to time, so here we are. Let’s dive in to this week’s edition.

Some tips on how to take care of yourself in the face of distressing images and videos. It’s been 7 weeks since the most recent outbreak of conflict between Israel and Palestine. This is not the first war in history, nor sadly is it likely to be the last but it is probably the first time (at least for me) that a conflict is being played out right before my eyes on my phone. Every single day since 7 October has brought previously unimaginable horrific images. The death toll, especially of the Palestinian people, a significant proportion of which are children, is absolutely gut-wrenching. If, like me, you have struggled dealing with the barrage of horrifying videos and images of Palestinian suffering, and find yourself feeling hopeless, helpless, anxious and depressed, perhaps this article will help you in providing tips on how to take care of yourself. Regardless of your feelings about the conflict and which “side” you support, I would implore you to speak up and advocate for a permanent ceasefire to this conflict, donate to the humanitarian efforts and seek to better understand the roots of this longstanding conflict. I’ve been on this learning journey for a few years now and I know where I stand #FREEPALESTINE

Sifting through misinformation. There is a lot and I do mean, A LOT (!), of photos, videos, posts, opinions being shared and with it, there is also a lot of misinformation. I watched this video which at least tried to give some guidance on how to identify misinformation.

The Penguin Little Black Classics – I’m trying to get back into reading and I started by re-reading some books I have previously enjoyed from this series (The Madness of Cambysses and The World is Full of Foolish Men), as well as a new one (The Fall of Icarus).

I’m not the biggest Breezy fan but this song is a BANGER! The production, the video, the choreography, EVERYTHING. Yes it has two of your problematic faves on it, but a banger it remains.

The No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Range. My favourite products are the Serum and Night Cream and I can honestly say, these products produce some of the best skincare results I have ever seen on my skin since I discovered retinols. They’re that good. And the great thing about this range is that it doesn’t contain any retinol in it so it’s much gentler on the skin. I love!

This Hada Labo Super Night Cream. My new favourite night cream EVER. I love this product!

Back at my old true-crime doc loving tricks, and The Vatican Girl on Netflix is an absolute must watch. Have a box of tissues handy though and maybe cheer yourself up afterwards with some feel-good factor from the Beckham documentary.

Lastly, I’m loving these snacks – they’re healthy, junk free but yummy snacks! My faves are the Swedish cinammon bun balls and no-bake apple crumble. You’re welcome!
