Empties – January to March 2020

I’ve managed to get through quite a few products in the first quarter of 2020 and rather than wait until the end of the year, I decided to share my experiences on a quarterly basis. Then hopefully the amount of products won’t seem so overwhelming. Whew! So here’s what I’ve gotten through in skincare, hair, bodycare and general wellness.

Ole Henriksen Banana Eye Cream – There was a time when I was not a full believer in the power of eye cream. I am not a full convert now but I can definitely testify to this eye cream working. It definitely gave me the appearance of brighter eyes and reduced the under eye baggage. Let’s be clear, if you have not gotten sleep in a while and have some heavy duty bags under your eyes, this will not help you. A miracle worker it is not, but the Banana Powder in it does have brightening properties so it’s a good one to have in the beauty arsenal.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream – I picked this up at the start of winter last year when my skin started crying out for moisture from my acid overload. It’s soothing and very moisturising for such a lightweight cream. Did its work well and the price point is not too bad either. Might just pick another one up when this lockdown is over.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask – This mask is the truth. Truly the truth lol. It is absolutely essential in my skincare arsenal. I bought it early last year and it has literally just finished now. It’s so good, incredibly moisturising for the lips and lasts. And now there are multiple flavours. What more could you ask for? I will definitely be repurchasing and in different flavours too!

Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb – Oooh this is some good stuff right here and perfect for layering in the winter. I loved this especially in the last few months when I felt my skin was crying out for moisture. I will probably reinvest for next winter.

Belif True Cream Moisturising Bomb – If I hadn’t tried the Aqua Bomb cream (above), I would have happily loved this product totally. Sadly I tried it afterwards, and whilst it wasn’t terrible by any stretch, I just didn’t think it was as good or useful. A nice moisturiser for if you have normal skin and don’t need the extra moisture dose.

Belif Bergamot Herbal Extract Toner – This was nice and a gentle way of adding moisture back to my skin after cleansing. Won’t be repurchasing though.

Belif Hungarian Water Essence – Same as the toner above, a nice product. I don’t feel as if I had any amazing results from it, nor was it harmful to my skin. So no repurchasing this.

Sephora Hyaluronic Acid All Day Hydrator – I got this as a freebie with a Sephora purchase and I was a bit confused at first as to how to use it. But it’s good stuff and a good value moisture boost to the skin. I will definitely consider a full purchase post lockdown.

Palmers Manuka Flower Honey Leave In Conditioning Cream – I won’t even lie, I did a praise dance the day I finished this cream. It wasn’t awful but it really wasn’t great either. The scent is quite overpowering (in a negative way for me) and it left flakes in my hair when I used it on even slightly damp hair. Happily it looks like it’s been discontinued because I definitely won’t be repurchasing.

Dove Go Fresh Moisturising Cream Deodorant – This has been my go to deodorant for so many years but I’m now trying out powder deodorant sticks and also exploring other deodorant alternatives. Let’s see how I do but I will definitely keep this in the back of my mind as my old faithful.

Radox Cherry Blossom & Violet Scent – You would have seen from my last Empties post that I love Radox products and this was the most recent one I am loving! Looks to be sold out at the moment but pick another one from the selection HERE.

& other stories Scandi Signature Hand Cream – First of all, the packaging is STRUGGLE. Like really, why am I doing arm exercises simply to access cream I paid money for. I get that the 100% metal packaging is recylable and good for the environment but fam. Struggle. The scent that seemed ok but I’m not buying again, I already have a gym membership.

Listerine Total Care 6 in 1 Clean Mint The product blurb says that it delivers six benefits to (1) clean your whole mouth, (2) kill bad breath germs, (3) prevent cavities, (4) restore enamel, (5) freshen breath, and (6) strengthen teeth. My dentist actually said that he thought mouthwash products are a waste of time and I can’t say that this product did anything to prove him wrong. But still…I liked it. So yeah.

Raspberry Leaf supplements – TMI alert! I have really heavy and painful periods and I’m constantly in search of a painkiller that won’t turn me into a crackhead but is still somewhat effective. Especially in these COVID times, we’ve been advised to lay off the anti-inflammatories which is my go to for the monthlies but someone recommended Raspberry leaf supplements as a natural muscle toner so I thought why not? Honestly, I have gone through two bottles of these and… I still have painful periods and I went back to the double strength ibuprofen when it got too much. The search goes on for a natural pain reliever!
