Empties – April/May 2020

I really wanted to make this a quarterly thing but the way these products are piling up!! I have got some goodies for you guys and some absolute no-nos. Remember – this is only my opinion and based on my own experience and skin conditions. You may love something I hate and the reverse too. And it’s all good. Consult a dermatologist and/or aesthetician for a professional opinion on your skin. Also just to be clear, I will only be talking about empties that I have not previously mentioned before. So a product that I have used, loved, shared with you guys, and then repurchased will not feature again in an Empties post unless my feelings on said product change. Capisce? Alright, let’s get into it!

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub – For some reason, a body scrub just sounds like luxury to me. Maybe because I associate body scrubs with spas and indulgent living? I don’t know but as I get older and need to battle cellulite more and more, I see body scrub becoming a staple in my body care routine. This particular scrub though? It was nice, and I liked it. I’m not a huge fan of the scent though, way too lemony for me. It’s not a shoe-in for a repurchase but it was a pleasant product.

Simple Moisturising Facial Wash – It was after discovering better facial washes that I realised this product was drying out my skin. Issano from me.

Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Oil Control Micellar Water – I think if I had used micellar water before using cleansing oils, I would be into this more. As it is, I tend to use this for those days when I am absolutely shattered and can’t be bothered to wash my face after an oil cleanse. It’s my lazy make up removal go-to but I don’t really like to use this too much. As a product and my first experience with micellar water, it was not a bad one. I am sure I will probably invest in another micellar water even if not this one.

Botanical Lab Neem Leaf Gentle Face Wash – Oh this facial wash! Just beautiful, beautiful! This facial wash does everything for my face, especially if I am having a blemish prone moment. It’s gentle but effective, doesn’t leave my skin tight and the neem and salicylic acid do their work to battle any

Radox shower gels – You know my love for Radox. Almost every “Empties” post features one of their products (I hear sponsorship coming soon, Amen! haha!) .Well I’ve got some new flavours that I am loving – “Feel Lively Wild Peony and Lychee” (swoons!!) and “Dead Sea Salt and Fresh Mint Scent” (great after the gym!).

Sunday Riley CEO Vitamin C Hydration Cream – I really loved the Sunday Riley CEO serum so I was expecting to love this too. Unfortunately that just was not the case. I found the cream to be heavy and left my skin super oily and greasy. Not a fan, sadly.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50+ Invisible Fluid – Now that the last of my beloved Dreamscreen has been used up, I’ve discovered a new love. This sunscreen is fantastic – lightweight, absorbs quickly into the screen and best of all? Doesn’t leave me casket-grey. What more do I need? I love it and I repurchased already!

Glow Recipe Pineapple – C Bright Serum – Vitamin C is my current bae for real so I was excited for this product. First off, the smell is breathtakingly disgusting. Like rancid. It’s foul. The serum itself is ok, it does its work but honestly, you can find just as effective products without the awful smell. It’s a H*LL NAH for me!

Colgate Total Whole Mouth Health Active Fresh – A good toothpaste, does the job. I’m partial to the Colgate brand just from familiarity, but I don’t look for any specific qualities. So as long as it doesn’t give me hassle, I just buy what looks good re toothpaste. And this one was a good one. Melikey! Already repurchased!

Colgate Total Whole Mouth Health Visible Action – This toothpaste is good but the blue blobs are a nightmare to clean up after brushing your teeth. Just because of the blue blobs, I will not buy this again, nah fam!

Estee Lauder Beautiful – This is a scent that lives up to its name. It is indeed beautiful, not too heavy and a perfect scent to give me a sense of normality during the lockdown period (yes I wore perfume everyday in lockdown, IDC IDC IDC!). Not likely to be repurchased because I like my signature scent but still very pleasant.

Dove Nourishing Body Care Intensive Body Lotion – I don’t know what happened to Dove body lotions, but sadly they appear to have fallen off. This did nothing for my dry skin, regardless of how many times I desperately layered and layered more on top. Another no from me!

Products I’m chucking! These are the products that I never got round to using, used once and never went back or just bought so many and been really stingy with the product till it expired before I finished using it.

L’oreal Color Riche 132 Magnolia Irreverent – I bought this lippie on a whim because it was such a gorgeous pop of colour and I was feeling adventurous. I don’t really wear bright pink on my lips these days – I’m more of a nude or red lady – so this has just been sitting gathering dust for a long time. Better to get rid methinks!

Bourjois 12 hrs 35 Entry VIP – I just said I was a red lippie girl but for some reason, this lippie did not grab my attention. It was ridiculously cheap in a sale but never really worn so in the end, very bad value for me. Ah well, we live and learn.

Innisfree Bija Anti-trouble Spot Essence W – This was my first experience with spot cream and I wasn’t very consistent with it/ I also bought it in 2014 so perhaps it’s time to say goodbye!

Innisfree Eco Science Recover Spot Essence – I never used this product boooooo! I got it free as a sample with a product order YEARS AGO (!!!) and just never bothered to try it.

Maybelline FIT Me Foundation (shade 355) – There was absolutely nothing wrong with this foundation, I just don’t wear makeup often enough and I did start using this same bottle about 4 years ago. 4 YEARS. I have two brand new bottles so I think it’s ok for me to give up on this bottle and start anew with a fresh bottle. Fits my complexion perfectly to even me out and using just a couple of drops gives me a light to medium coverage finish. Could be buildable to full coverage but that’s not my style. No need to repurchase when I have two full bottles waiting for me ha!
